Governance theory is one thing; the reality of your sector is another.

Directing a company means dealing with complexity and imperfect information. And what works in one sphere, won’t necessarily work in another.

In November 2016, the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) is launching an ASX Sector Forum and a Private Sector Forum. These will be followed by a Government Sector Forum and a NFP Sector Forum in May 2017. The forums will provide attendees with tailored information that goes beyond theory, and into the challenges of governance practice in each sector.

The forums will feature leading speakers from the sector, and real-life case studies linked to performance outcomes. Attendees will walk away with a fresh perspective, and practical ideas to improve performance.

What are the key issues affecting Australian NFPs?

Join the AICD’s not-for-profit (NFP) sector leader, Phil Butler GAICD and managing director of Baxter Lawley Research, Penny Knight MAICD for an interactive, 60-minute webinar as they discuss the highly-anticipated results of the 2016 NFP Governance and Performance Study.

The study, which sought the views of 1,600 NFP directors, is the largest of its kind in Australia. Each year, the results provide a snapshot of governance trends, challenges and opportunities emerging for this diverse sector.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear about a number of critical issues including financial strength and sustainability, and the need for a strong focus on long-term strategic governance as the sector faces a period of significant change and disruption.

    Whole-of-organisation governance

Many of the most infamous corporate collapses, from HIH to Centro, came about through organisational leaders neglecting the importance of governance and culture.

Making sure that your organisation is well-governed is not just a matter of compliance; it is crucial to long-term success.

To help them achieve their goals, the AICD partners with organisations to build their governance capability. Through its Partnerships program, the AICD provides in-house tailored governance advice and training, working with executives and directors in the privacy of their own boardrooms.

The AICD can help an organisation’s leaders understand the governance challenges they’re faced with and implement best practice frameworks to meet them.

This could be through providing our world leading Company Directors Course adapted to the exigencies of the organisation’s industry or sector, or through the benchmarking and quantification of the performance of the board in meeting its objectives and those of the organisation.
