The Australian Institute of Company Directors has now extended its range of services to better support whole-of-board and business governance.

Essential Director Update with Graham Bradley AM FAICD

The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) is pleased to announce Graham Bradley AM FAICD as the speaker for the 10th anniversary of the Essential Director Update (EDU) series later this year.

Bradley is an experienced and distinguished director, and was awarded the Order of Australia in 2009 in recognition of his contribution to business, medical research and the arts.

Held in September and October, the EDU series will travel around Australia’s capital cities, where Graham will share his significant directorship experience. He has spent years as a professional company director in some of Australia’s largest companies, including Stockland Corporation, EnergyAustralia and HSBC Bank Australia, as well as major government organisations Infrastructure NSW and Film Finance Corporation, and international companies including Singapore Telecommunications Limited.

Graham has taken over from Alan Cameron AO FAICD, who delivered the EDU for nine years. The AICD would like to thank Alan for his significant contribution to the EDU.

The EDU is an exclusive, complimentary, member-only annual update that has grown to be one of the most anticipated series in the AICD’s calendar.

    AICD is global

Working as a director, senior executive or aspiring director in multiple countries comes with a different set of responsibilities than if you were working in Australia. AICD’s international courses, held in various locations every year, can help you navigate the challenges of global directorship and governance.

The International Foundations of Directorship is a three-day program that provides a comprehensive introduction to governance, strategy, risk and finance as they relate to international directors.

    • 22 – 24 August, Singapore
    • 26 – 28 October, Hong Kong
    • 23 – 25 November, Vietnam

The International Company Directors Course is the only program of its kind designed to help experienced directors gain a deeper understanding of directing in a global context. It will illuminate your roles and responsibilities as an international director, helping you to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges, issues and opportunities you will encounter.

    • 5 – 9 September, Hong Kong
    • 14 – 18 November, Singapore

Whether you are looking at starting your international director career or are an experienced director looking to increase your knowledge of international directorship, AICD’s international courses will increase your knowledge of good international governance and provide an invaluable networking opportunity.

    Governance and performance

The Australian Institute of Company Directors understands that running a mid-sized business can leave little time for strategic and future planning. That is why we have developed our flexible one-year Directing Growth program – designed specifically to help business owners drive sustainable growth and performance through good governance.

The program incorporates both face-to-face workshops and online learning, so busy business owners can access the information they need, when they want it.

The latest round of workshops on “The Customer” travelled across the country last month, delivering insights on critical relationships between customer, purpose, product or service business.

    Mastering the art of directorship

For even the most experienced directors, a career in the boardroom is not without its obstacles. It is important for directors to feel prepared to face these challenges head on and lead through opportunity and crisis.

Our Mastering the Boardroom program takes directors beyond following best practice principles of good governance and explores the art of directorship.

Over four intensive days, Mastering the Boardroom provides a unique learning environment in which to discover how to be more influential, more persuasive and how to work with different views in challenging boardroom situations. We are hosting Mastering the Boardroom in the following locations:

    • 8 – 11 August, Sydney NSW
    • 11 – 14 October, Sanctuary Cove QLD
