As we look to the future of the AICD, we’ve refocused our attention on delivering greater value to our members through more tailored learning and practical support.
In response to member feedback we’ve developed Membership Reimagined, which is about moving beyond content alone, to facilitate stronger connections that help members grow sharper and develop greater capability.
Many of you may have engaged with the tangible initiatives we’ve put in place over the course of this year, including pilots for peer-to-peer discussion groups, aspiring and emerging director programs, mentoring sessions, and enhanced onboarding and networking opportunities for members.
Our ambition is to deliver a personalised membership experience that supports members at every stage of their governance and directorship journey, with relevant learning, practical insights and connection to peers designed to help you thrive professionally.
We’re evolving our education offering into more integrated, personalised learning pathways – connecting courses, events and peer engagement into a more cohesive experience aligned to your goals, expertise and career stage.
This approach recognises that directors are seeking practical, applied learning that can be accessed when needed, alongside opportunities to engage with peers and test perspectives in real time.

Membership Reimagined sits within a broader program of transformation underway across the organisation, designed to ensure we continue to deliver relevant, high-quality support in a rapidly changing governance environment.
First Nations Director Update
A strong recent example is the inaugural First Nations Director Update, the brainchild of our First Nations Sector Lead Justin Agale. The update created a space for meaningful peer learning and reflection – enabling directors to engage directly with diverse perspectives and consider the implications for their own practice in the boardroom. It was a great turnout, with nearly 300 people attending in-person and online, and demonstrated the value of bringing directors together to learn directly from each other.
AI governance
I’d also like to encourage members to explore our updated suite of AI governance resources and commend the AICD Policy team and our partner the Human Technology Institute at UTS for this important and incisive piece of work. By now, we’re all aware of the impact of AI and its potential as a driver of productivity and economic growth. AI is already reshaping business and the economy, and boards play a key role in overseeing both the opportunity of AI, along with close consideration of the unique and elevated risks, and the need for responsible implementation.
Our updated guidance is designed to be practical and boardroom-focused, helping directors to navigate key questions with greater confidence.
Getting a handle on regulation
You may also have noticed recent national media coverage of the Alliance of Industry Associations, which the AICD is a member of. This coalition brings together around 30 business and industry peak bodies as a collective voice on business-led policy reform priorities. The AICD’s contribution is to ensure the board and director perspective is clearly represented.
Our research with Mandala Partners featured heavily in the media coverage. Among other things, the research identified the cost of regulation to business and the economy as $160b annually. The alliance will continue to prosecute the case for better regulation as one way of solving Australia’s well-documented productivity challenge.
