The Australian Institute of Company Directors strongly supports the Federal Government’s commitment to open debate on comprehensive tax reform.

“It is now widely-accepted that our tax regime needs an overhaul. Australia must have an open debate that does not rule out options such as a change in the GST”, said John Brogden, the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

“Everything needs to be on the table – GST, state taxes, superannuation. This is not the time for rule in/rule out debate.

“Directors have consistently called for a wider, broader GST as a central part of a broad tax reform package that takes into consideration all other aspects of taxation, including personal tax rates and multinational tax arrangements.

“Directors want to be part of a constructive, open debate about tax reform that focuses on the factors necessary to achieve change and not on negatives that act as a roadblock to reform,” said Mr Brogden.
