AICD shows support for 2017 ACT women of the year

The Australian Institute of Company Directors has again partnered with the ACT Office for Women this International Women’s Day to celebrate the achievements of three of Canberra’s female community leaders.

Each year, the ACT Office for Women hosts its ACT Women’s Awards on International Women’s Day, honouring a group of finalists and three exceptional women across three categories for their achievements and contribution to Territory life.

This year’s winners included Marie-Louise Corkhill, executive director and founding employee of not-for-profit Karinya House (ACT Woman of the Year), Francesca Mclean, founder of the fifty50 program which aims to close the gender gap in STEM professions (ACT Young Woman of the year) and Andrea Hotchkiss (ACT Senior Woman of the Year) for her work in establishing and building women’s football in the region.

The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) was an official sponsor of this year’s Awards, donating gift certificates for each winner to complete an AICD short course of their choosing.

“The AICD has a longstanding relationship with the ACT Office for Women and we have a proud record of delivery in-house governance education courses to women in the region through the Office for Women’s Audrey Fagan Leadership Program,” said AICD’s ACT State Manager, Lynette Pinder GAICD.

The organisations have partnered to develop the skills and expertise of ACT women with an aim to increase their participation in key decision-making and leadership roles. Over the past six years, more than 200 ACT women have participated in a range of courses offered by the AICD.

“The AICD has long been an advocate for diversity in business and the wider community. We are delighted to be able to sponsor such a worthy cause: the celebration of three inspiring Canberrans,” she added.
