Directors vision recognised in gold

George Chapman AO, a former surveyor who became a land and property developer, a media owner, and a tourism entrepreneur recently received the AICD Queensland Division Gold Medal Award 2003 for his achievements as a company director.

Mr Chapman's more public achievements include the development of the multi-award winning environmentally-friendly Skyrail rainforest cableway through the World Heritage-listed Daintree National Park and his role in floating TAB Queensland Limited (now UNITAB).

At the Gold Medal Award dinner held last month AICD Queensland president, Dr Jane Wilson, paid tribute to Mr Chapman.

"George is a visionary who has turned dreams into realities. He brings a wide range of experience and wisdom to the boards he contributes to and leads. His decision-making is characterised by an enviable combination of logic and lateral thinking. On top of all his successes George is an innately humble and centred person. All these qualities make him an outstanding company director and superb person to know," she said.

He leads various publicly listed and not-for-profit boards including the Chapman Group, UNITAB Limited, GFB Fisheries Limited, Honeycombes Investment Group Pty Ltd, McCafferty's Greyhound Pty Ltd, Far North Queensland Youth Assistance Fund Inc, and Cairns District Advisory Board of the Salvation Army.
