Directors can play an active role in championing innovation in the boardroom, according to Dr Massimo Garbuio, an Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship at the University of Sydney Business School.
Directors should firstly consider if there is an innovation mindset in terms of diversity in the boardroom offering diverse perspectives across gender, background experiences and outside industries. Secondly, they should be careful in the way they formulate questions to other directors or to the rest of management and use techniques to expand on ideas. Thirdly, they should ensure there is a close connection between the management team and the board in terms of conversation around strategy and innovation.
Associate Professor Garbuio will take part in a webinar on Tuesday, 18 July with an expert panel of directors to give a comprehensive overview of the ground-breaking 2022 AICD - University of Sydney Innovation Study.
The webinar, Driving Growth through Innovation – the Director’s Role, will also offer valuable insights into the current state of innovation. Register for the webinar now.
The AICD partnered with the University of Sydney Business School to produce a second edition of its study into innovation in December last year. Download the report here.
