The AICD is supporting the Federal Government’s push for businesses to consider holding their upcoming events in regions adversely affected by the bushfire crisis.
The Federal Tourism Minister, Simon Birmingham, has put out a call for organisations to get on board with Tourism Australia’s Event Here This Year campaign and choose Australia for their events to provide a much-needed boost for the regions.
There are not only regions that have been directly impacted by bushfires, but those who have suffered economically as international organisations steer clear of Australia altogether.
The AICD is backing the call for Australian businesses and organisations, who haven’t booked their events yet, to consider holding their board meetings, conferences or exhibitions in the regions. The Federal Government’s call complements other initiatives by State Governments.
AICD CEO and Managing Director, Angus Armour said, “As Australia recovers from the catastrophic bushfires it’s incumbent on all of us to contribute in any way we can to assist in our recovery and this is one way organisations can choose to make a contribution.
“Australia remains a natural wonder and impacted regions need our support over the long-term. So rather than booking an overseas destination, this is the year to look in our own backyard, and to these communities across Australia.”
