The AICD and the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) have collaborated on practical guidance for boards on understanding frontier AI cyber threats and strengthening cyber resilience.
Profound advances in AI technology, underpinned by vast investments in computing capacity, have rapidly expanded the capabilities of AI tools and systems. These frontier AI models are characterised by sophisticated reasoning, coding and autonomous problem-solving capabilities. In the hands of threat actors, they can accelerate reconnaissance, rapidly identify vulnerabilities and automate elements of cyber attacks.
The AICD ASD guidance details threshold questions boards can ask to understand their organisation’s resilience to frontier AI cyber threats. It also outlines key areas for board engagement with management, spanning immediate, short, medium and long-term priorities, as well as practical actions that boards of all organisations can oversee.
