Gender diversity of chairs in the ASX 300

    Current

Since 2019, the AICD has been tracking the progress of women in ASX 300 chair roles. This quarter, we’ve taken a closer look at the representation of women chairs at both the company and committee level.

Female appointments to the directorship of ASX 200 boards continue to increase this quarter, bringing the proportion of female directors to 35.7 per cent in the ASX 200 and 34.9 per cent in the ASX 300. However, and as our data reveals, these statistics are not reflected in the proportion of women chairing ASX companies. At the end of November 2022, women account for around 10 per cent of all ASX 200 and 300 chair roles.

Data on committees from Open Director reveals a more positive picture, with women currently chairing 39 per cent of ASX 300 committees.

The GDR reflects on these key statistics and the opportunity to strengthen the talent pipeline and further diversify these critical ASX leadership roles.
