Ian Atkinson

Professor a/Dean Graduate Research, James Cook University

Ian Atkinson is a Professor of eResearch and co-founder of LiXiA. He started his career as an experimental scientist and moved into supercomputing computing.

His expertise in eResearch (using advanced IT to device new approaches to research), big data management, and the internet of things. His work in using widely deployed, low-cost sensors for environmental monitoring has helped create a new approach to understanding our world in real-time. He has been using AI and image recognition in health and agriculture for a decade and is anxious that organisations use AI safely and can thrive now a once in millennia invention has been unleased.
