The Strengthening for Purpose report makes a range of recommendations for consideration by Government, including significant reform to Australia’s fragmented fundraising laws.
AICD Managing Director & CEO Angus Armour welcomed the report and encouraged Government to consider its recommendations.
“The AICD has advocated for comprehensive reform of Australia’s disjointed and inefficient web of fundraising laws through our work with the #fixfundraising coalition,” he said.
“We believe reform in this area could deliver more than $15 million in savings for charities every year and allow them to focus their energies on their mission, rather than red tape.
“The recommendation to allow the regulator to explain what misconduct it has detected and what has been done in response is also welcome, as it would strengthen public trust in our vital NFP sector.
“The AICD also welcomes the recommendation to increase reporting thresholds, which will reduce costs for smaller charities. The AICD has consistently argued that the current thresholds are inappropriate.”
The AICD will consider the Strengthening for Purpose review in detail and consult with our NFP members over coming months.
Two-thirds of the AICD’s 43,000-strong membership play some role in the not-for-profit sector.
