ABOUT THE COURSE
Are you and your organisation cyber ready?
Would you add value when responding to a cyber crisis? This
illuminating four-week online course will help experienced board directors gain the knowledge and confidence to assist in preparing a robust strategy to manage a cyber threat effectively.
To take this course, prior governance knowledge is essential. You must either be a current practising director with at least three years’ experience or have attended one of the following courses:
- Governance for Directors
- Strategy and Risk for Directors
- Foundations of Directorship program
- Governance Foundations for Not-for-Profit Directors program
- Company Directors Course
- Or any courses at the strengthening level or above
This course will strengthen your understanding of the cyber security landscape, so you can contribute to setting policies that align with technological approaches to managing risk.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Discuss cyber governance and the importance of effective cyber oversight for an organisation and its stakeholders.
- Describe the board’s role and responsibilities in cyber governance.
- Design a healthy cyber-resilient culture through incident preparedness and organisational cyber-resilience.
- Examine the current and emerging cyber landscape to oversee the development of effective cyber-focused strategy and risk frameworks.
- Formulate comprehensive cyber response and crisis management strategies, principles and communication.
- Course duration: Four weeks
- A Course Introduction Session soon after your course start date to meet your facilitator and cohort and familiarise yourself with the course.
- 2-hour interactive online sessions every week facilitated by an experienced director with contemporary expertise in cyber security governance. Comprehensive online course materials, supplementary reading, videos and case studies will support your learning.
- Expect to dedicate approximately 3 hours per week on reflection, preparatory reading and activities prior to the live sessions.

- You will earn 10 CPD points and a digital credential upon completion.

To achieve the desired learning outcomes, this course is structured over four weeks and includes a fictional integrated case study to help you discuss and apply the content to governance scenarios with your peers. Below is a breakdown of how the topics and virtual classrooms are organised.
Week 1: Foundations of Cyber Governance

Week 2: Role, Responsibilities and Culture
- Director duties and responsibilities
- Governance structures
- Cyber & culture
- Live online session 2 (2hrs) will explore this topic.
Week 3: Strategy and Risk for Cyber
- Cyber strategy
- Cyber risk management
- Live online session 3 (2hrs) will explore this topic.
Week 4: Responding to a Significant Cyber Incident
- Cyber Incidents
- Live online session 4 (2hrs) will explore this topic.
