Michael Ullmer AO FAICD

Michael has more than 40 years’ experience in international banking,
finance and professional services.

Michael was formerly the Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer of the National Australia Bank (NAB) from 2007 until he retired from the Bank in August 2011. He joined NAB in 2004 as Finance Director and held a number of key positions including Chairman of the subsidiaries Great Western Bank (US) and JB Were. Prior to NAB, Michael was at Commonwealth Bank of Australia, initially as Group Chief Financial Officer and then Group Executive with responsibility for Institutional and Business Banking. Before that, he was a Partner at accounting firms KPMG (1982 to 1992) and Coopers & Lybrand (1992 to 1997).

Michael is a Director of Westpac Group. He retired as Chairman from Lendlease Corporation in November 2024 and stepped down from the board of Woolworths Limited in October 2021. He was previously a director of Fosters Limited.

Michael has a strong commitment to the Arts, having been Chairman of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and a Trustee of the National Gallery of Victoria, and continues to be involved with both organisations. He has also been heavily involved in the Education sector, with roles including Deputy Chairman of Kambala Girls School in Sydney, Treasurer of Lauriston Girls School in Melbourne, Chairman of Schools Connect, and chairing the Business-School Connections Roundtable for the Federal Government. He is a member of the European Australian Business Council. 

Michael has a degree in Mathematics, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, a Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia, and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
