Paul O'Malley

Chair and Independent Non-Executive Director

Mr Paul O’Malley is the Chair and Independent Non-Executive Director of the Commonwealth Bank (CBA). 

Paul was appointed as a Non-Executive Director of CBA from 1 January 2019, Chair from 10 August 2022 and sits on the Nominations Committee (Chair), Audit, People & Remuneration, Risk & Compliance Committees.

Paul has broad executive leadership and operational experience. He served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BlueScope Steel Ltd for 10 years, after joining the company as Chief Financial Officer. Previously, Paul was the Chief Executive Officer of TXU Energy, a subsidiary of TXU Corp based in Dallas, Texas. He also has a strong background in finance and accounting and worked in investment banking and audit.

Paul is a former Director of the Worldsteel Association, Chair of its Nominating Committee, and Trustee of the Melbourne Cricket Ground Trust. Paul was a former Non-Executive Director of Coles Group Limited.
