Michael Stillwell FAICD is an experienced Independent Company Director with a fifty-year background in the fields of Family Business, Automotive Retail, International Aviation and Information Technology.


Having completed an Executive MBA and a Masters of Marketing at the University of Melbourne, Melbourne Business School Michael’s core strengths are in the areas of Strategic Planning, Leadership Development, Retail Sales and Marketing, International Business, Governance and Risk Management.

In addition to his role as a Director of Stillwell Family Investments Michael currently Chairs three Syndicates for the CEO Institute and continues to provide governance and leadership advice to a small number of private, government and not for profit organizations. Michael recently retired as Founding Chair of the Monash Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Previous board roles have included directorships with the family-owned Stillwell Motor Group, Family Business Australia where he served as Audit Committee Chairman on FBA’s National Board, Interplast Australia where he provided strategic input to the Marketing, Fundraising and Communications functions, the Australian Motor Sport Foundation and as a committee chair on the Melbourne Business School Alumni Council.

Michael has served as Chairman of Family Business Australia’s Victorian Chapter, President of the Old Scotch Collegians Association and as Chairman of the Scotch College Foundation. As a Past President of the Rotary Club of Kew Michael has performed a variety of leadership roles within Rotary and has served as both a Business Mentor and Steering Committee Member of the Victoria Police Leaders Mentoring Program.

As the eldest second-generation member of the Stillwell Family Michael played a key role in the transition and growth of the Stillwell Family business following the death of family patriarch Bib Stillwell in mid-1999. Having contributed actively to the family succession plan and the recruitment of a non-family Chief Executive Officer Michael retired early in 2009 from his full-time role within the family business.

A keen pilot and motor sport participant Michael is regularly called upon to share his wisdom and experience at numerous speaking engagements.
