Dr Keith Suter was a distinguished economic and social commentator, strategic planner, conference speaker, author and broadcaster.


The AICD was saddened to learn of the passing in December 2025 of prominent academic, author, respected global commentator and AICD Fellow Dr Keith Suter, AMFAICD.

Dr Suter, a passionate human rights advocate whose career spanned more than five decades, had a long association with the AICD, joining in 1980. He spoke at the Australian Governance Summit and took part in webinars in recent years. He chaired the AICD’s Environment/Corporate Social Responsibility Committee (1997–2003). 

During his long career, Dr Suter held numerous board, chair and advisory roles. He was advisory board member at World Citizens Association of Australia, a former board member of Wesley Mission for many decades and vice-chair of the Institute of Global Peace and Sustainable Governance.

Dr Suter, born in London in 1948, was also a Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute London and a Fellow of the Royal Society NSW, plus a conference speaker, author and broadcaster. He hosted a weekly podcast “Global Truths” and was a media commentator on Network Seven and the ABC.

He was a former president of the Australian chapter of the Club of Rome from 2023 to 2025. And taught a course on regional security at the Sydney international campus of Boston University, USA.

An obituary, written by The Hon. Michael Kirby AC CMG FRSN and his partner Jane Phelan, titled ‘An understandable voice amid the world chatter‘, was published in the Sydney Morning Herald on 19 December 2025.
