Following a long executive career in agribusiness, Richard’s NED career was initially a very Listed Public Company centric one. Roles with BOQ, Reef Casino Trust, Websters, and Tassal were complemented by chairing Endeavour Foundation for 5 years.
In more recent times however, he has deliberately gravitated towards private and family-owned company roles. Their inherent appreciation for the importance of playing the “long game”, a fairness test approach to balancing competing stakeholder interests and an authentic commitment to holistic sustainability aligns with his own value set. The relatively long horizon of family owned business has a marked impact on the way they think about, plan and manage financial, human and natural capital and this allows such enterprises to outperform and outlast their listed peers.
He is a 35 year Fellow of the AICD,a past Chair of the QLD Division and former director of the National Council.
Today he chairs the Cotton Research and Development Corporation and McLean Farms and sits on the boards of SunnyQueen Eggs, BEC Stockfeeds and Stockyard Beef.
