Ms Gaye McMath became ECU’s sixth Chancellor in August 2024, following two years on the University Council and chairing its Quality Audit and Risk Committee.
Gayes executive experience includes a 23-year career with BHP, and a 15-year career in higher education, including senior executive roles at UWA and Murdoch University. At UWA, her 12-year tenure as Chief Operating Officer included leading the UWA “college row” development of 1000 student dwellings and the building of over 2000 purpose-built student accommodation beds in the Perth CBD for the benefit of all education providers.
Gaye served as a Commissioner of the City of Perth and was instrumental in the development of a CBD University based campus, which ultimately culminated in the establishment of ECU City.
Gaye has also held non-executive roles for over 25 years across a diverse range of sectors, including as a StudyPerth WA board member, where she helped shape WA's international education strategy.
Gaye holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Business Administration and has completed the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. She is a Fellow of CPA Australia and AICD. Her leadership has earned her the recognition for excellence in governance, including the awarding of the AICD PWC Excellence in the Not-For-Profit sector award.
