Diane Bray Kargas AM FAICD

Non-Executive Director, Directions Health Services

Originally from Adelaide, Diane has lived in Canberra since 1965 and has been a tireless contributor to the Canberra community and as a mentor for women and others in the charitable and not for profit sector.


In her former role as the Public Trustee for the ACT, Diane founded the Capital Region Community Foundation known as GreaterGood with an aim to raise funds for community projects, local and regional charities, for the perpetual benefit of Canberra and the region.  Following that as part of a leadership group founded and was Chair of Hands Across Canberra, the Chief Ministers Charitable Fund, past chair of Common Ground Canberra, and acting chair of Community Foundations Australia Board and is currently non Executive Director on the Directions Health Services Board, HOME in Queanbeyan and Mental Health for Mob.

Diane was awarded as the ACT Local Hero in 2004, following her role in administering the Canberra Bushfire Appeal, and in 2007 was recognised by the International Woman's Day Award for services to the ACT Community; she was awarded Member of the Order of Australia for her services to philanthropy, aged care, people with disabilities and juvenile diabetes research in 2009.  In 2011 she was listed on the Honour Roll of 100 inspiring women in the ACT and was a finalised in the 2018 Senior Australian of the Year Awards for the ACT. Diane was also awarded the honour of being Canberra’s Citizen of the Year in 2018.
