Philippe Etienne

Chair and Independent Non-Executive Director

Philippe is Board Chair of Cleanaway Waste Management Limited, Board Chair of Quantem (formerly ANZ Terminals Pty Ltd) and an independent non-executive director of Aristocrat Leisure Limited and Lynas Rare Earths Limited.


He is a former NED of Sedgman Limited and in addition to his non-executive roles is Group 1 Chair at the CEO Circle and an executive mentor.

He was formerly Managing Director and CEO of Innovia Security, the UK/ Australia joint venture commercialising polymer banknote technology across the world. Philippe was an external appointment to that role to resurrect the company’s reputation, strategy and culture following a significant corruption case under former management.

Prior to joining Innovia Security, Philippe was CEO of Orica Mining Services, the world’s largest commercial explosives company and was a member of Orica’s Group Executive Committee. His long career with Orica and ICI Australia before it, included three years in Germany as Managing Director of Orica Europe, Middle East, Africa and three years in the USA as Senior VP Planning & Strategy and then Global SVP Manufacturing & Supply Chain for Orica‘s explosives business. Prior to this, Philippe held numerous product management and business unit management roles in both commodity and emerging technology areas. He was General Manager of ICI Valchem and then joined the Chemicals Group executive when he was appointed General Manager of ICI Watercare and later Division GM of ICI ChlorAlkali.

Philippe’s early career started as a management trainee with the Bonds Group after he completed his BSc in Physiology and Pharmacology. He later completed postgraduate studies in marketing, an MBA and attended the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School in 2007.

Coaching and mentoring has always been an important aspect of Philippe’s approach but he formally started providing mentoring services in 2014 and has since then mentored senior executives across a diverse set of organisations including Oricon, Pacific Hydro, BHP, Asahi, NBN Co, Sportsbet, Fagerhult, AIA Insurance and Thales.

Philippe, his wife live in Melbourne where his numerous interests and hobbies include motorsport, music, sailing and wine.
