For the past 20 years Erik has been an experimental quantum physicist at Griffith University working in trapped ion quantum computing and related fields.
Best known for being the first to image a single atom’s shadow, his research ranges from fundamental questions about the nature of our world to adapting techniques from quantum physics to address real problems. Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota he is a graduate of Caltech (BSc) with a senior project at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and MIT where he did his PhD with supervisor Nobel Laureate Wolfgang Ketterle.
