John is recently the retired Chairman of Telstra Corporation, Chairman of Brambles Ltd, Chairman Elect of Treasury Wine Estates and a director of Brookfield Infrastructure.
Former directorships include Toll Group, Macquarie Airports Corporation and several boards in the USA and Europe. Present and past Not for Profit responsibilities include Chairman of the Australian National Maritime Museum, Member of UNICEF Task Force on Workplace Gender Discrimination and Harassment, Chairman of the US National Foreign Trade Council in Washington, and member of the UNSW Business School Advisory Council.
John is Chairman of the Silentworld Foundation, a private foundation dedicated to maritime archaeology and the discovery of early colonial shipwrecks. The Foundation carries out annual archaeological expeditions in Australia and the Pacific and owns one of the most prominent private museums in Australia dedicated to early colonial history.
